Pictured here is an Industrial Conveyor Belt Furnace and Controls System for annealing large torsion and extension springs at a throughput of 6,000 lbs per hour. It includes two zones of control, axial recirculation blowers, an exhaust fan, and hoods for fume extraction.
The electric-powered heating system utilizes medium-wave quartz tube infrared heaters and stainless steel axial fan mixers for a combination of direct radiant infrared and convection heat technology, which increases the heating rate and efficiency over traditional infrared or convection-only systems.
The furnace includes two (2) heat control zones each with separate PID temperature feedback and over-temperature safety limit controls. An element-end supply fan with differential pressure switch monitoring is included for cooling the element ends, terminations, and wiring, as well as cooling the outer skin of the furnace.
A high-temperature exhaust fan with differential pressure switch monitoring is also included and fed from a manual damper controlled furnace port, as well as in-feed and out-feed exhaust hoods for burn-off and fume extraction.
The conveyor consists of a stainless steel flat wire belt with a 3/8” thick floating stainless steel slat slider support system. The conveyor belt includes TIG welded stainless steel flights for positioning and supporting the springs through the furnace. The conveyor drive system is variable speed through a variable frequency drive controller and includes a double gear reducer, double-disc slip clutch, and encoder for measured conveyor belt speed display.
The insulation system is graded, consisting of a pressed 2” board “hot face” with ceramic wool backing insulation for heat retention, reduced outer skin temperatures, and high efficiency. The control system is housed in a free-standing air-cooled NEMA 12 dual door control panel designed and built to UL508A standards, and includes a lock-out-tag-out (LOTO) rated flange mounted main breaker, phase-angle SCR controls of heat zone outputs, and low voltage 24VDC controls.
